We built a hillside home with Serenity Homes in 2007-2008 and have had such a pleasing experience we would build with them again… the only trouble is, we love our house so much, why would we ever want to move?

Right from the outset, during initial enquiries and dreaming of ways to use our block, Gary Barnes was honest, helpful, and informative; everything he did and said convinced us to trust him.

We had never built before, but it turns out our trust was well placed. He and his hard working team designed and built us a stunning home that far exceeded all our expectations in terms of quality, use of space, interior design and excellence of workmanship. We are pretty fussy people, and Serenity was a good match for us, as they show great attention to detail and only use the most skilled tradespeople.

As with most building processes, things did go wrong from time to time, but it was the way Serenity handled the issues that really kept our confidence up and our trust high. Dale Lewis, the site supervisor, usually knew about the problems well before we noticed them anyway, but if it was us that noticed an issue, he was responsive and quickly got out to the site to see what the problem was. It was rectified quickly with no fuss.

Since handover, various tradespeople have come and gone to finish off bits and pieces that we have noticed, or fix things that have needed attention as the house has “settled”. We have appreciated not being forgotten once the last cheque was paid.

The building process took 8 ½ months, from the time the site was cut to handover. Gary had originally estimated 8-10 months, so we were pleased to be into our home in such a timely manner.

Having not built before, we didn’t know any reliable tradespeople to install extras such as air conditioner, ducted vacuuming, etc. Gary put us in touch with people he knew and we were able to get all these important things in during the building process. Because Serenity knows these trades men from previous jobs, Dale was able to communicate directly with them to get them to install on days he planned for and the hassle was taken out of our hands. Dale also made it easy for us to use our own wooden flooring contractor and worked around them near the time of completion.

To summarise, we unreservedly recommend Serenity Homes to anyone wanting to build. The advice we got along the way from all the team was invaluable, and as it turns out worth its weight in gold. We know that if you choose Serenity to build your home or investment you will not be disappointed. We are certain you will actually have a very positive experience in the hands of a friendly team with such integrity and exacting standards.

We started our build with Serenity Homes in early November, 2006. Dale has proved to be an exceptional building supervisor, taking all of the stress and worry out of the building process.

Friends had told us that building a house was a nightmare of chasing the builder, missed deadlines and delays. The total project was finished in July, 2007.

Not once did we have to chase the supervisor, in fact he contacted us directly if he had any concerns. He managed all aspects of the contractors and had everything timed down to the smallest detail, so rarely was there any dead time in the build. When one aspect of it was finished the next part was started immediately. He also ensured the site was always kept in a respectable state no matter what construction was taking place.

In short, Serenity Homes has enabled us to have our house built to our specifications, managing all aspects of construction with skill and experience, keeping us updated at every step. As such we have had no hesitation recommending Serenity Homes to friends and colleagues who are considering building based on the experience we have had.

From the very first meeting to the final handover Serenity Homes, Gary Barnes and the team displayed professionalism, integrity, foresight and attention to detail.

When I met Gary, I was teaching in an outback remote school. Every school holiday break, Gary made time to meet with me to discuss the planning of my home. The house site was steep and awkward requiring an experienced builder with a commitment to quality in design.

Serenity Homes not only designed and built my home but they also assisted with external works such as retaining walls, and obtained related engineering and council approvals.
